The Face of Modern China

by gordonmichaelsutton

Awful pun in the headline to the post I’m afraid, but found myself eager to record the faces of the people I saw in China. It was fascinating to learn that so many of them came from many far flung provinces, and were not merely the inhabitants of the three large cities I visited. This group of cheerful characters were clearly from out of town and were thoroughly enjoying the ferry ride in Shanghai.

Meanwhile, only a short distance from Shanghai’s famous Bund district, this new bride was wrapping up to keep warm between shots.

Here, this entrepreneurial craftsman from nearby Anhui Province was busy making and selling his own version of macrame artefacts.

Back on the ferry I saw this impressively stoic profile.

Stoicism, too, in the face of this street cleaner on the Bund.
